Midsummer flower management

There is always a period of dormancy and semi-dormancy during the growth cycle of a plant. Some summer dormant flowers enter dormancy earlier, most of them begin in early summer, and only keep the roots and leave all the leaves, such as cyclamen, dragon's claws, and leek. The semi-dormancy flower enters the dormancy period and begins in midsummer. It almost stops growing or grows slowly, accompanied by leaf withering and shedding, such as dianthus, bell-shaped jellyfish, bamboo jellyfish, fragrant wormwood, geranium, and carnation. For the summer dormant flowers, special conservation management will be given during the midsummer period to allow them to spend a safe or semi-dormant period.

One is to pay attention to temperate moisture. Summer is a rainy season, and it is very unfavorable to dormant flowers. Therefore, to prevent it from being exposed to rain, for example, see the water in the basin, a method of basin control should be adopted so as to avoid rot of flowers due to large water. Watering usually depends on the amount of wet and dry conditions of the basin soil, and dryness is not biased.

The second is to pay attention to restraint fertilization. Before the potted plant enters the dormancy period, a phosphorus-containing fertilizer may be applied, but the flower that has entered the dormant period should be stopped fertilizing. The semi-dormancy flower must also be strictly controlled and fertilized. Generally, a thin fertilizer solution can be applied once every 30 days. After entering the autumn, most of the flowers are about to lift their dormancy. At this time, fertilization is like “sending charcoal in the snow”, which is conducive to the rapid growth of flowers.

The third is to pay attention to shade and ventilation. The strong summer weather is strong and the temperature is high, which is detrimental to dormant flowers. Therefore, shading treatment should be adopted, that is, the potted plants should be moved to a cool, ventilated place to reduce transpiration. At the same time, it is advisable to spray the leaves (water) on the potted plants to reduce the temperature around the plants and pots so that they can be fully rested.

The fourth is to pay attention to picking leaves. In midsummer, the removal of dead leaves (including unhealthy leaves) and the removal of weak branches of old shoots for flowers that have entered a dormant or semi-dormancy period are not only beneficial to flower dormancy, but also have the effect of early dormancy release. It is conducive to flowering in the future.

The fifth is to pay attention to pest control. In midsummer, if the potted plants entering the dormant period are improperly placed, coupled with a hot climate and poor ventilation, they are often prone to pest damage such as black spot, spiny bark, and scale insects. Bordeaux fluid and sterilizing spirit should be used promptly after discovery. Dimethoate and other drugs (used in accordance with the instructions) are sprayed and controlled.
