1 Fasten the specimen between the ring clamps.

2 Put the weight on the round handle and attach the locking ring so that the dart quality is close to the expected impact damage quality.

3 The selected weight △M should be compatible with the impact strength of the sample. Usually, the ΔM value is approximately equal to 5% to 15% of the impact damage mass Mf. The weight must be 3 to 6.

4 Power on the electromagnet, insert the round handle of the dart vertically into the magnetic connector, and adjust the drop height. When the electromagnet is powered off, the dart is free to fall. If the dart is bounced off the surface of the specimen, it should be caught.

5 Check the specimen for any signs of slippage. If there is slippage, the test results should be discarded.

There are two ways to check the slip:

a. Before the falling dart, along the inner wall of the upper clamp, draw a circle on the surface of the sample with a ballpoint pen, but only the pressure of the ballpoint pen itself can be applied to the sample. After the dart falls, along the inner wall of the upper clamp, a circle of another color is drawn on the surface of the sample. If a double line appears at any position on the circumference, there is a slip.

b. For clamping the specimen by means of rubber washers with fine abrasive cloth or sandpaper, it is only necessary to check the specimen clamping part after impact.

A scratch on the bit. If there is, it indicates that there is a slip.

6 Check the sample for damage (ie, penetration) under the condition of the back side of the sample, and record the result on a check paper.

7 If the first sample is broken, use the weight â–³M to reduce the drop mass. If the first sample is not broken, the weight of the body should be increased by weight â–³M. Continue the experiment accordingly. In summary, using a weight to reduce or increase the mass of the body depends on whether the previous sample is broken.

8 After the 20 samples were tested, the total number N of damages was calculated. If N is equal to 10, the test is completed. If N is not equal to 10, the test should be carried out as follows.
