Poplar cutting forest selection and cutting processing

Poplar is adaptable and grows fast. Poplar is widely used, not only for wood but also for processing industrial timber. Poplar has become an important raw material for plywood, fiberboard, paper, matches, hygienic chopsticks and packaging. In China's vast rural areas of Pingchuan, poplar is the main species of timber forest, shelter forest, and greenery on all sides. Planting poplar trees not only has huge economic benefits, but also has great ecological and social benefits.

Since the late 1950s, the province has vigorously developed poplar shelter forests in the northern region and poplar farmland forest network in the mid-south region in the 1970s. After the 1980s, poplars became the main afforestation tree species in our province. At present, most poplar farmland forests, high-yield forests, and street trees have become mature or over-mature forests, but they still play an important role in improving the local ecological environment. How to achieve a short-term renovation and transformation, and to play its due protection function? However, the scientific update has always been a major issue in the urgent need of research and resolution of forestry production. The Yangshufeng High Yield Forest Experiment Bureau of the Sanggan River in Shanxi Province has systematically researched and tackled the problems of poplar and overmatured forests through cutting and grafting since 2003, and has made breakthrough progress. It passed Shanxi in 2010. The Provincial Science and Technology Department organized the results appraisal.

This project has strong practicability, remarkable ecological, economic and social benefits, and broad prospects for promotion. It has reached the international advanced level in similar research.

1, cutting forest selection

Deforestation selection refers to the reforestation of poplar cuttings. At present, the main forest stands are selected for the regeneration of poplar trees, over mature forests, high-yield forests, farmland shelter forests, and street trees. The selected forest stands must have a certain viability. For trees that have completely died, the entire trees cannot be used as cutting. Pile grafted stand. Poplar farmland forest network and street trees are the green protective barriers of regional ecosystems. The tree species are mainly Beijing Yang, Yang Yang, Xinjiang Yang, and Populus tomentosa. However, it has entered the stage of becoming mature forests and is faced with the problems of cutting and updating. Europe and the United States Yang Feng forest. Most of them were planted after the 1980s and have now entered mature and overmaturity periods. Yang Yang (cooperate with Yang) High-yield forests, of which forests established in the 1980s have entered mature and over-mature forests, and some of them show slow growth and dead leaves. Some of them are serious diseases and insect pests, and negative growth in stock volume. And the dying forest stands.

2, harvest time

For the deforested forests that have been selected, the cutting time for the grafted rootstocks (cuttings) is mainly controlled. The harvesting time is controlled in the spring of the winter season or the grafting year. The harvesting is the best before the grafting, and the water loss of the felling piles is not severe enough to maintain sufficient freshness and vitality. All regions determine the best harvesting period based on the local climate, and generally the spring harvesting occurs before the end of March. Weak stakes in low wet areas can maintain strong vitality for a longer period of time. Therefore, in the low-humidity section, the time between harvesting and grafting can be longer. However, when grafting with old fellings, it must be checked whether it has strong vitality. Bark can be peeled off with a sharp tool during the inspection. If the skin tissue around 1 cm from the surface of the cutting pile is fresh and the surface of the xylem is slippery and fresh, it indicates that the cutting pile still has sufficient vitality and can be grafted. In general, grafting can be performed as long as it does not pass through a summer after harvest, but it must be checked whether it has sufficient vitality.

3, cutting height

During harvesting, cutting heights are retained in a manner that is conducive to the height of grafting operations and facilitates management. The high cuttings are not conducive to soil sealing and moisturizing. Too low a level is not conducive to grafting. Therefore, it is generally advisable to keep cutting heights of 5 to 8 cm. It is also required that the cutting surface should be level and the cutting must be done to ensure that the bark is not torn.

4, marry to clean up

After the harvest, the forest land shall be cleaned in time, the harvested land shall be ensured to be free from logging, and there shall be no branches or other harvested residues, so that “centralized harvesting, timely cleaning, and grafting at any time” can be achieved. If leftover residues remain, it will affect the implementation of grafting operations and affect the survival rate of grafting, and it is also not conducive to the management of the later period.
