Calcium supplementation for field crops in spring is very important

In spring, field crops began to recover. Wheat, peanuts, potatoes, rapeseed and other crops are inseparable from nutrient supply.

Farmers are often used to supplementing nutrients with compound fertilizers, ignoring the supplementation of middle and trace elements. However, when crops recover, root development and growth require nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, and calcium is also indispensable.

Causes of calcium deficiency

Physiological calcium deficiency. Physiological calcium deficiency means that the soil itself contains enough calcium. Factors that affect transpiration or root growth cause calcium to be unable to be absorbed by crops. These factors mainly include temperature, soil pH, and soil moisture.

When the pH value is less than 6, the absorption and utilization rate of calcium decreases sharply, so acid soils generally suffer from serious calcium deficiency.

Low calcium content or high salt content in soil affects the absorption of calcium by roots.

Excessive application of nitrogen fertilizer. Because too much nitrogen fertilizer will increase the salt concentration of the soil and reduce the absorption of calcium.

Calcium deficiency

When crops lack calcium, there will be fruit surface problems such as softening of the top of the stem, necrosis of the top bud, curling of young leaves, scorching of leaf edges, and fruit cracking.

The calcium-deficient parts are apical buds, lateral buds, new leaves and fruits. One is because the transpiration of crop organs from large to small is old leaves-new leaves-fruit surface-apical buds. Once calcium is deficient, these parts will be the first to have calcium deficiency except for the old leaves. The second is that the transfer rate of calcium in plants is very slow. Once calcium deficiency occurs, it first appears in the young leaves while the old leaves are not too obvious.

Solution

Improve soil structure. By adjusting the soil acid-base balance, improving the soil aggregate structure, adjusting the soil to an appropriate range, promoting the vigorous growth of the root system, and contributing to the absorption of calcium.

Chong Shi supplements calcium. Commonly used calcium fertilizers in the market include lime and calcium nitrate. But use it with caution. For example, long-term application of lime is likely to cause the pH of the soil to rise, so do not use it continuously.

Foliar calcium supplements. The roots and leaves are combined, the roots are supplemented mainly, and the leaves are supplemented. While applying plantar fertilizer, spray chelated calcium fertilizer on the leaf surface before the critical period and the maximum period of the crop's demand for calcium.
